During the summer, I taught reading, math, and science to a small 3rd grade class. It was up to me to determine the right method of teaching based off a teaching plan that was provided. I knew that lecturing 3rd graders for 2.5 hours would not help me to get my message across. Therefore, I decided to create fun, educational games that the children can play while still learning the material. Not only did I excite them by allowing them to play games as a team, I was able to see how they communicated with each other.…

My favorite part about this class was the, Who am I websites. I enjoyed listening and learning about everybody's life. We have way too much in common our foods, music, lifestyles, families, friends religious, career goals, and etc. Although, I still believe a couple of students didn’t receive the unity messages. Learning about socioeconomic status, race, religion, and cultures were all significant.…

Belonging didn't really occur to me in middle school years. I was a very comfortable person with my friends and my surroundings. It only occurred to me at the beginning of my senior years that the friends I had were hypocritical and weren't the best people to hang out with. talking behind peoples back in their own friendship group and gossiping about the same people everyday wasn’t really my scene. After I left those friends I felt lost and confused like i hadn't really planned who i was going to be friends with and what I was going to do next.…

Looking back on the events where I fell into inevitable failure, nothing stands out to me more than the time I nearly failed pre-algebra in middle school. To be honest, while that awkward 7th grade me focused more on getting others to know my name, I wasn't focusing on the workload or taking notes in class and we all know what happens next. Instead I was trying to be popular (which you and I both know wasn't going to happen), and pretending to be someone else. This could be characterized as many small fails inside one, humongous fail.…

In middle school I would log into my AOL instant messenger account and send phrases to SmarterChild, an artificial intelligence driven chatterbot, to translate into Spanish. I recall gleefully feeling like I had discovered a big secret, a way to use recreational instant messaging as a means to learn. Now, as technology becomes a more integral part of day-to-day life, the distinctions between what is purely fun and what is educational are becoming less clear. My own work in various educational capacities has shown me that it is possible for digital communication tools to effectively supplement learning. While this connection is clear, my experiences have also highlighted the complexity of the implementation and use of these resources, inspiring…
