How To Be An Effective Learner

If I were asked to explain learning to someone who has never taken this course I imagine my response would be far more insightful now than ever before. Prior to my enrollment in this course I would have probably alluded to the idea that learning can only be successful if you are a self-motivated person or if you reach out for help from as many people as you can to make it through a course that may seem difficult for you. I was also of the mindset that being a good learner or studier was either naturally in you or it wasn’t. I no longer have that same mind state as this course comes to an end. It has become very apparent to me that learning (good, bad, or indifferent) is done with intention or a lack thereof. Learning is not a thing that …show more content…
I definitely agree with my LCI rating as a dynamic learner, if I was a little more in tune with my Technical Reasoning I imagine I might even resemble a strong-willed learner. I feel like I use my team of learning patterns very well depending on the situation. I would say I have naturally developed a nice balance of my learning patterns over time; all the while being completely oblivious that it was even a thing! At almost 38 years old and having spent 19 years in the military, I have faced many learning challenges over the years and because of those challenges I naturally had to do what the curriculum in this course forces you to think about doing, which is to use FIT appropriately to adjust your patterns as necessary. If only I would have taken this course when I was 18 years old, I might have saved myself some struggles over the year, but either way I am glad I can make sense of what I’ve already come to have a solid grasp …show more content…
I have to constantly make concentrated effort in intensifying both of them regularly but mostly my Technical Reasoning. This is something that I struggle with at times because I am not the most tech savvy kind of personality or mechanically and electronically inclined, so when I face learning challenges involving those types of tasks I definitely feel overwhelmed. Ensuring success in this class was pretty simple for me because it required almost no Technical Reasoning as far as I could tell. However, there may be courses in the future where I am forced to really intensify that learning pattern in order for me to do well. If that happens I am sure I will refer back to this curriculum and some of my assignments to look at ways to help

TMA 07: Critical Review AA100 The Arts Past and Present was my first module with the Open University which has been a massive learning curve both in studying and being disciplined with my time to study. Over the months of studying there have been modules which I assumed I would thoroughly enjoy and modules which I assumed I would dislike, however this thinking has turned out to be the complete opposite. Use of my study time is something that I have found challenging at times as the modules have progressed and increased in difficulty. I have also found that you need to be especially self-motived and disciplined when completing each module.…

You need support and understanding to become an effective learner. You can motivate yourself to study hard constantly by writing down your goals; motivation is emerging from many external factors such as external relationships. Also, you have to receive support from other people to grow up as an effective learner and to reinforce learning. For example, if you are trying to solve problems without any support; it will take a lot of time to solve on your own or ends up with guessing. Guessing is not precise information; that is not really helpful in learning.…

Reading Becoming a Learner should be a requirement for all students upon entering high school. These skills are essential for entering the real world and college life. I am very excited about the opportunities available through the Wellesley Quantitative Analysis Institute! This summer, I took the QAI summer course and loved learning how to use data analysis and computer skills to solve problems and answer questions. As someone who wants to have a career in economics, a field that looks at data and uses quantitative tools to address social problems, I enjoyed learning about applications of statistics in various areas of study, from psychology to history. I am especially interested in strengthening my applied knowledge of statistics, data analysis, and computer programming. While I can learn about these topics in class, I found this summer that the fastest and most effective way to sharpen my skills is to apply them to real world problems.…

I believe this course was very effective for students as it reflects the purpose of every assignment. Every assignment not only helped me to gain knowledge about different topics but also help me understand their meaning and how they reflect in our life. Ex. There I found emotion is very muchly involved in our daily learning and it either builds our motivation to learn or could also discourage us to learn.…

If one person starts to go downhill, it will drag everyone down as a team. We all need to work together, stay up on top, and no slacking. I am going to look back on other classes that I have taken that were similar to this one and pick out the challenges that faced me in that class. And having those in mind will prepare me to focus strongly on them in order to improve myself in that area. Another good thing that helps me is having the syllabus printed out and with me at all times.…

Goal I The first goal of the program was to “Apply major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology to prepare for graduate study or careers in which psychological training is relevant”(). Two classes met this goal, Introduction to Psychology (PSY 111) taken at Anne Arundel Community College, and Introduction to Counseling Psychology (PSYC 432) taken at the University of Maryland University College. Introduction to Psychology was the first psychology course I took many years ago. It was the class I took because I had an empty slot on my schedule.…

I was able to become the successful student I wanted to be. At the beginning of this class, I assumed that it would have been easier to self-teach myself this information; however, by taking part in this class, I gained more knowledge than I expected. I recognized that I was off course when my grades began to drop and I participated less. Once I recognized that I was doing poorly in classes, I identified my self-defeating patterns. Some of these bad habits included getting high and drunk with my friends, playing games, going out to parties, procrastinating, and sleeping less.…
