Big Learning Experience

Improved Essays
This semester has been a big learning experience. I came into UCF at the beginning of the summer thinking that this semester was going to be a breeze. High school was very easy for me so I assumed college couldn’t be that much harder. Wow, was I wrong. It’s not that this semester was overly difficult it was just not what I was expecting. I really never had homework in high school and almost never had to study. I very quickly learned that college was the exact opposite of that.I have done more studying and assignments than i ever did in high school. It was good for me though. I feel like I am actively learning now, which I couldn’t say before. This course has helped me a lot in the transition from high school to college. It wasn’t overly difficult …show more content…
The fact that it was based on a true story made it even better. It was filled with life lessons that I will always carry with me. For example, feeling like you don’t belong somewhere only to find people you were destined to meet. These refugees had such a hard life before they were moved to the US but the struggles didn’t stop there. They constantly felt like outsiders in a place they should be able to call home. Once the Fugees found each other and started up the team, it helped them cope with everything going on. Soccer was their outlet. I can relate to them because most of my school career I felt like an outsider. Mind you i had been going to the same school since I was five years old. I had two or three best friends but if they weren’t there on the same day I felt completely alone. I continued to feel this way until I started FFA. FFA was to me what soccer was to the refugees, it was my outlet. I found a family in FFA and it made my high school career worthwhile. My goal for this semester was to get an A in this class. So far I am on track for this goal. I have and A- right now. To help myself keep on track for this goal I will continue to study for the final exam. I will have someone test me as another form of studying and I will also try to relax. I have always gotten extremely nervous before tests and this is absolutely no exception. My nerves often cause me to second guess myself and my work but I will

Soccer also plays a major role in there lives. Everyone on the team has the love of the game and is a great player. Playing has turned me in to someone who never wants to give up, someone that works hard to achieve goals, and not just go through the motions. Soccer has helped me make friendships and memories that I will always remember. I have learned many life lessons through the success and failure of playing the game.…

Last semester was definitely the hardest for me. I have two challenging research papers toward the end of the semester. I find it hard because I did not know what to write about and which assignments I should start on first. I manage to overcome this challenge by narrowing the topics and start on the paper that was closest to deadline. My stress level was at 10 because I skip meals and stayed up all night long to finish my papers.…

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

Dear Carolyn Boles Scholarship Committee, I have had a great first semester in college full of learning and meeting new people. I studied extremely hard the entire semester and was determined to get the best grades possible. My favorite class was psychology and I received a very good grade in the class, so I was asked to become a mentor for the class next school year. I also decided to work toward receiving a minor in health psychology because I loved the class so much. In another one of my classes, we learned about different health field careers in order to decide if nursing was right for us since it is such a competitive major at IUPUI.…

Taking your AP Composition English class has been a frightening yet successful challenge. Personally I have always struggled with the English language since it is not my native language. Freshman year I was denied into the honors English program as was the case sophomore year. In my college prep classes I noticed I was not making any noticeable gains, so that was when I realized I had to challenge myself by taking your course. The rumors stated by current seniors made the class seem impossible.…

Many people come into college feeling unprepared, nervous, and unconfident, and while being convinced that I was indeed prepared, I couldn’t help but feel some of these stressful emotions. Over the past month and a half, I have adapted to my new environment that is Pacific Lutheran University (PLU), and feel much more sure of myself as I continue through this semester. I have learned about what skills and mindsets can lead to a successful college experience, such as hope, grit, and resilience. I have also been able to reflect on myself as a person, and identify strengths, values, and abilities I possess that I can use to my advantage. Finally, I have learned about different resources I have surrounding me, and different aspects of PLU that…

Yet another one of my goals is to maintain my intellectual wellness. School has always been very important to me. All throughout high school, I worked very hard to maintain a 4.0 GPA and to take as many college credit classes as my school offered. I want to try my hardest to keep this up for as long as I can in college. I know that it will be more difficult, but I think that it is possible.…

I would say that I learned the most about what it really means to have time management after this semester. Entering my first semester of college I had blind faith in the University, and myself because I believe everything would just work out and I would pass because it was meant to be. However, fate and hope are no the things to help you life as a new college student. The drive to wake up, attend class, finish homework, and accept the new responsibility that had been placed in my novice hands diminished greatly as the non-academic temptations became to creep in my head. I must be honest with you and let you know that I did cave and willingly participate in the sweet release of social experiences.…
