Reflective Essay: Learning Connections Inventory

Improved Essays
To me, Learning cannot be defined in one way, as everybody learns in a slightly different way. As we have learned during the course of this class, the LCI scores can help provide valuable insight in to your specific learning patterns. So to begin explaining to somebody what learning is, I would have them first take the Learning Connections Inventory. This would give a basic understanding of how they learn as an individual. I would then explain to them how to apply those learning patterns in everyday learning situation. This may include key words that hint towards one pattern or another. In Week 1 I stated “Learning to me is the act of gaining knowledge to enhance the quality of life. I think at this point I am rather naive about online learning”. …show more content…
When you start thinking in only one aspect, you miss out of so many things that can help you in everyday life. The first thing I noticed when I got into this class and started discovering features, was the great structure of the website. I love that everything from day one to the last day is mapped out. There is clear instruction, and overall great structure. This makes things easy because it does not require me to use my sequence as much, and therefore I can more actively use my other patterns. My use of precision has greatly benefited, it has allowed me to use greater detail and elaborate on my thoughts in greater depth. Also, knowing that I do not use confluence as much as I should has enabled me to focus more on its use, and in turn has help me brainstorm new ideas on what to write. While you may expect that a new combination of learning pattern knowledge would provide a certain degree of challenges, I have not found that to be the case. I have found that all four of the patterns work in a much more efficient manner when used together. The biggest challenge for me will continue to be my attention to detail, and making sure that I stay on course with my studies. I need to make sure I plan out even more time than I have to this point, to insure that I am completing all of my assignments, and to the best of my

Preparing the homework will take so much time; a day to day work is necessary. Professors require their homework to be ready on time. Thus, everything should be done in the same week; otherwise, it will be impossible to get ready before the next class. Furthermore, some of the homework will force me to go to the library to do some research or meet some classmates for a team project. I understand that I must arrange my priorities by getting an appointment calendar to help me be organized.…

Using the 5 dynamics tool, I discovered several working style characteristics about myself that I really had not previously thought about. The application of this new knowledge will improve the way that I work with other people in my education, my career and in my personal life. For example, I learned that if I partner with others whose strength and weakness are different from mine, working together as a whole we will obtain better results than we will if we work separately. Furthermore, I learned that each team member brings different strengths to the project thereby producing a more balanced result. As a result of taking the 5 dynamics assessment, I discovered that I have valuable strengths that are especially beneficial in developing…

Explaining this class to someone who hasn’t taken it, would be somewhat difficult due to my bouncing around with words and not staying on track. However, I would do my best to explain it. First, by telling them to take the test that determines what his or her learning patterns were. Then after we had figured out what type of learner they are, go from there. I would go by telling them what all four learning patterns were to the best of my own knowledge, and try to explain to them what they mean for them.…

School connectedness has been defined as the belief by students that adults in the school care about their learning and about them as individuals (Blum & Libbey, 2004, p. 231). Research has taught us that second only to family, school is the most important stabilizing force in the lives of young people. Researchers said that the school connectedness is the quality of social relationships happening within the community of the school. The concept of school connectedness has been defined from the perspective of the individual as the "bonds" that students develop within their school environment (Libbey, 2004; McBride et al., 1995; Patton et al., 2000; Resnick et al., 1997). Resnick et al.…

The memoir I was able to write to what I felt like I needed it to be, add pictures so it could appeal more to the eye when reading and also made it easier.…

When I first began this class I thought that this would be just another introductory class that is required to orient you to the expectations of the particular college. Now, after completing this class, I know that this is not the case. Personal Dimensions of Learning has been a great help, not only to my school work, but also in my daily life. Before taking this class, I thought that learning, and completing daily tasks, were mostly memorizing the order of the way things are supposed to be done and just completing the task. I never liked this strategy, but it always seemed to be the most convenient way to get things done at school, home, and work.…
