The Socratic method was shared with us by my classmate Todd Ihle. Though it is about an old philosophy, the method enjoys appreciation in many educational settings nowadays. It encourages healthy discussion by directing a question to a group of students not to get an answer, but to test and challenge beliefs and assumption of participants in a positive and constructive way. The purpose is not to support and disqualify opinions, but it provides a broad range of perspectives and directions of thoughts. Instructors may use the Socratic approach to facilitate discussion about solutions given by students for case studies; instructors play facilitation roles without any support for any particular side of the discussion. The instructors should be neutral and let students learning by evaluating confronting each other opinions. I would like to the Socratic method for facilitating learning workshops to facilitate discussion and testing ideas and considering options to solve problems.
I am happy to share with you here the most important things I have learned from the articles and teaching method presentations this semester. I chose to talk about service learning, case study method, problem-solving, guided discovery learning, Socratic questioning. I talked about them and benefits and why I think they the most important to me. Moreover, I highlighted how I might utilize those methods and approaches in the future in work environments and educational
