Learner Analysis and Self Improvement Paper

The study habits that are most effective for me are reading the textbook and making flash cards. Reading the textbook helps me self tech. I can go back through the book and make sure that I have a clear understanding of everything that will be on the test. I can just review the information that I already understand. The information that I do not understand will then be self-taught. Flash cards help with my memory. Information that I do not retain well, after I read the book, will go on flash cards. I review the flash cards whenever I have free time, to memorize the information that I still do not know. I have recently learned that the “blocking” study method does not help you retain information.

Once, I heard a saying, “if it is important enough, you will remember it”. I love lecture classes where the teacher talks, and/or has a PowerPoint, and I can just listen and take notes. If the information is important, I usual remember it, or if it is interesting. Two summers ago, I took a psychology course and the only information that I retained from this class was about an experiment performed, the Milgram experiment. The experiment consisted of Person A having to shock Person B because Person C said so. The purpose of the study was to show that people take orders from the people that we think are in charge. I took notes for this lecture and I never forgot the information because I was important, as well as interesting. As well, as taking notes, I also watched a video about the Milgram experiment that helped me retain the information. Visual learning, is a learning style that I am still developing. I never remember photographs well. Therefore, I never remember important information associated with a photo because I can never remember the image. Kinesthetic, is the learning style that I am least good at. Touching things or being active while trying to study, or retain information, takes my focus off of what I am supposed to be learning. Even though I know which learning style is best for me, I still have to learn how to study in a timely …show more content…
Knowing which learning style is best for me is extremely helpful, but if I lack time management then I will never get a chance to use the information retained, from my learning style. Making sure that I can study, do homework and attend classes is an important quality to have so that I may pass my classes. Time management, is not only important for studying, it is important skill for life. Time management is a skill that will help me in my future career and life, in general. Being able to balance all of the tasks, in a timely manner, will help me accomplish many things at work. Also, if I decide to have a family, I will have many responsibilities, so being able to manage my time will be a much needed

The quote "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn" by Benjamin Franklin tells me that by just telling me without showing me will not let me learn anything. I agree with this quote because when a teacher or someone tells me something about an assignment or homework I will eventually forget about it but if some one teach it to me step by step and I write it down will let me remember. By writing down the notes that the teachers wrote down step by step and write it my own understanding will make me understand more about the lesson because who understands my writing more than myself.…

If so, one should revisit the quiz or problems a week later to determine if this knowledge is still strong. Retrieval methods have been proven to be effective in recalling previously learned information. To practice this skill, I could use a blurt method. This could be done by writing down main concepts and ideas using the PowerPoint slides and book, then going back without information and simply filling out as much information as one can recall about each concept. I can then go back and compare my notes to what I wrote.…

Out of all 5 of my talents, Learner describes me the best. As cliché as it may sound, I really have a passion for learning. But my passion for learning extends far past just the usual sitting in class taking notes, or the usual memorization of subjects, instead it really reaches out to deeper depths where I really seek to master everything that is put into my head. I am not okay with only touching base on subjects or barely treading the surface of topics, rather I have to really dive into the text and pay close attention to all the details in order for me to grasp what is going on.…

Kinesthetic learning style is a style that involves learning by touching or doing things. Kinesthetic learners may find it easier to make a model rather than just read or just look at the book. Kinesthetic learners prefer touching the information by being creative. Kinesthetic learners want concrete, multi-sensory personal experiences in their learning so presenting concepts during lectures using suitable clinical case scenarios, analogies, real life examples, and metaphors will benefit kinesthetic learners, as will incorporating videos and movies. Teaching with multisensory approaches will also satisfy the need of multi-modal learners, especially those who are not satisfied until they have had input from all their preferred…

On average, people forget 40 percent of what they have learned within the time span of 20 minutes. Throughout the course of just six days the average person would recall just 23 percent of what they have learned. Concluding that if a teacher were to give a 20 minute lecture on the civil war, and then he was to give a test on it, most students would score no higher than a mere 65 percent, even though the information was given to them recently. So then if students cannot even recall a quarter of learnt material within six days, then what would happen if the material had not been refreshed or reviewed within 60 days.…

Since I was homeschooled through high-school, the way I preferred to study was pretty simple, yet efficient. First, I would have a pre-planned general, weekly schedule of all my subjects that I needed to complete each day, but it was a flexible schedule that just described what I needed to generally do each day of each month through the whole year. After organizing my textbooks and their folders, I would find all my books and order them in my “study box” to help me stay on track with the readings and extra things I needed to go through. Since I had a lot of diverse subjects that required different learning strategies, I always tried taking notes in accordance with my learning style preference and approached each subject in a similar yet different way. For…
