Leah's Monologue

Zzzzzzzz zzz zzzzzzzz zzz…

Leah sluggishly woke up from her slumber to the sound of her phone vibrating against her wooden side table.
Still bleary eyed, she picked up the phone. There was some muffled voices that she could not distinguish. "Hello?" Leah mumbled
The voices stopped, and all that could be heard was heavy breathing. In her dazed and confused state she asked, “Who is this?”
No reply.
The familiarity of the situation hits Leah, as she starts to come to her senses and sees the dull haze of the moon outside her window. Her alarm clock chimes. It’s midnight.
Immediately Leah hangs up the phone and stares up at her ceiling, thinking that this is the third night in a row she has been called. She’d brushed it off before as a mere prank call.

Is it the wind, next door neighbor’s cat - or something else…. This makes her sink more deeply into her ocean of pillows, trying to escape from the scary outside world. Tired and dis-orientated, she begins to wonder, how much longer can she take this. Is it even worth trying.
Drifting in and out of consciousness, waking up at the slightest creak, bang or rustle, the morning finally arrives.

“Over here!” a voice calls out over a team of cricketers in the middle of a pitch.

Leah looks up as she approaches the flood lit cricket field, her heart skips a beat, and she waves her hand fondly in the direction of Triston
She heads over, strategically timing her walking in order to not get hit by the ball.
A sigh of relief comes over her, as the entire walk from her house a few blocks back she was constantly looking back over her shoulders and thought she saw silhouettes darting around under the dim street lights.
As Leah walked into the embrace of her boyfriend’s arms, feeling a meager moment of comfort, she is immediately haunted by the returned sensation of someone watching her.
