As we enter into December, it is difficult to believe that our school year is almost half-way over. Each day is a new adventure and our students have learned so much. Our recent field trip to Honey Horn Plantation taught us about the history and process of making Indigo dye, how archaeologists dig for historical artifacts, and the art of leaf printmaking. In class, we have continued with our reading groups and have begun more actively cultivating our writing skills. New math and language concepts are being introduced daily and our students are learning to challenge themselves as they begin to take ownership of their education. Our Thanksgiving feast was a wonderful time of gathering as a community. It always is a pleasure to spend this

Class of 2022, it has been a wonderful three quarters. Remember at the beginning of the year, when we all had the Big Bear trip? Then, everyone was “stiff,” but now, we’re all settled into our daily middle school routine, and many events have passed already. Period 5 English, can you recall us realizing that everyone in The Giver was on drugs? Well, our class was pretty chaotic, and Ms. Gershenhorn had to bribe us to be quiet with the possibility of her doing the dab.…

Happy Thanksgiving from the PCE Team! It is hard to believe we are this far into harvest and only a few weeks away from a really good meal with friends and family! It is also, most of all, taking an added account of all we are thankful for. Our cooperative would not be great without the very patrons we serve. We have many multigenerational and longstanding relationships with many families from our farmer growers, residential propane users, feed store patrons.…

Dear Dean Bushnell, Vietnam has designated November 20th is the date to show GRATITUDE to teachers. For thousands of years, Vietnam has teaching to rank Teachers above parents; that’s why Vietnamese parents wholeheartedly emphasize education above everything. As I always contemplated, education liberated us from stupidity, oppression, and poverty. The Teachers’ Day coincided with Thanksgiving. Words cannot convey my deepest gratitude to you.…

During my sophomore year, I organized a fundraiser that showcased the talents of dozens of impoverished artists from Nicaragua and Guatemala. The Pulsera Project, or the “Bracelet” Project, sells colorful necklaces, purses, and wrist jewelry internationally through interested schools, and the profits go to the artisan makers. Offering diversity in design, the organization reveres its ability to introduce new, exciting hues to each student it impacts. My friend Paige and I wished to contribute to this project, so we set out to “color the world” of Revere High School.…

Thank you for such a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at your beautiful home. It was a joy seeing how much A.J. and Kayla have matured and shared their interests. I noticed that Kayla was wearing make-up, since the last time I saw her. She reminded me that she is now a "senior." A.J. has a pretty good idea of what he wants to do after he graduates from college.…

This artifact is an interdisciplinary lesson plan and learning center about immigration and disease in the late 1800s. I created this lesson and learning center with four peers and then taught it four times to 5th graders. The lesson met social studies content standards 4.1 and 6.3 and science content standard 3-LS4-3. We also created several activities that reinforced these standards. These activities included a black light experiment and a first person insight of living conditions activity.…

Besides being a day to stuff our faces and fall asleep in the middle of the afternoon, Thanksgiving is a time to reflect and give thanks for all of the wonderful things in your life. While it may be obvious that you should be thankful for your health, family, and that winning scratch-off you found in the parking lot (hey, 16 bucks is 16 bucks), you should also be thankful for your loyal customers who have been bringing you business for years. By taking the opportunity this Thanksgiving to thank your customers, you will not only make them feel good, you will more easily retain them. Remember, reselling to old customers is far easier than acquiring new ones (which typically costs more) and selling to them. A little thanks this holiday season will go a long way at keeping your loyal…

Having field experiences each semester is very beneficial for myself as a teacher candidate to learn and see the behind the scenes aspects of teaching. The actions that the teachers, and staff go through before or after the students leave the building to get ready for the next day, week, or month. Teachers need to work together in their grade level to understand where they envision taking their students with the curriculum and standards and materials needed for them to be successful. I got to experience this teamwork in a grade level meeting this semester in the field and learned a lot from it. During part of my field experience this semester I was in a fourth grade classroom at East Hanover Elementary School in Lower Dauphin School District.…
