Ridding America of One of the Leading Causes of Death: Suicide Suicide, the tenth leading cause of death in the United States, is a problem to which we must find a solution. In 2013, 41,149 suicides were reported, including one of my close friend’s father. The sudden tragedy caused a transformation in me, and I have become dedicated to joining the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s movement to end suicide. Reaching out to friends and family, I raised over 60 percent of one of the team’s goals for a recent walk to fund scientific research and to promote awareness about the problem many Americans face. Although proud of my accomplishment, I do not plan on stopping there. I cannot stop there. Taking on this project has opened my
