Paul Drover and Barak Ariel

In the article, Leading an Experiment in Police Body-Worn Video Cameras by Paul Drover and Barak Ariel the authors seek to address the uses and the consequences of police officers wearing Body worn videos (BWV). This experiment took place in Wolverhampton during the time between March and August 2014. This research will be conducted through a Random Controlled Trial, which is where participants are randomly assigned in an experimental group and makes it easier to study the behaviors of those who are being tested. Drover and Ariel’s (2015) reasoning for the experiment is to show the problems that come along when trying to get police …show more content…
Maybe they would’ve made sure that the body cameras would record a whole shift; from the time officers clocked in to the time they clock out. An idea could be to have one group have it on at all times, and the other group have on at alternate times. This could show if the requirement of having it on at all times could increase the rate of use of the cameras, compared to just having it on at certain times. It would eliminate the lack of use of the body cameras and the police officers would not have to constantly remember to turn on and turn off the cameras while on duty. Also, one thing that could have probably helped the RTC function without problems would be fixed was if the cameras would not charge if placed in the incorrect docking station. Though it was resolved, it could have easily been prevented from the start. Whether taking the costly way, by assigning each officer their own personal camera where they are free to take home and charge on their own time or to get cameras that have the same charger and can all download despite where it is …show more content…
Through evidence-based research you are able to actually analyze the subjects you are studying and have your results reflect the data you collected. You see the way they react to the changes and can see what has to be done for it to be implemented more efficiently. This RTC did just that with showing why it could be difficult to enforce the use of BWVs throughout the law enforcement. It showed how officers would either forget to place their camera in the correct charging dock or how if officers would not turn on their cameras during the times that they were supposed to due to it being a high stress environment or just not wanting to. It also proved that if you gave sanctions when not turning on their camera, the rate of camera usage increased. This RTC proved that if you work with the participants, then they will be willing to participate more because they know you will be protecting them from anything that could possibly go
