What Effective Leadership Means
Being an effective leader takes work. It involves an individual to lead with tenacity, integrity and have the ability to evolve as an individual. Not all leaders are effective however; it is still possible for them to run a successful organization. How? My paper will describe the skills and work it takes to evolve as an effective leader and show that you do not necessarily have to be in a leadership position to exhibit qualities of an effective leader. I will also outline this by utilizing sources and examples that describe and express the abilities needed to be an effective leader. 13). Similar to the law of nature which is what you don't feed, will not grow, applies to leaders and their employees. Strong healthy leadership will reap the benefits of strong healthy staff. Some of the food or skills that lead to an effective leader are the ability to be empowered and empower. Jack Wiley suggests employee engagement can drive high levels of success in business and by doing this, leaders must engage and motivate their employees and build a culture of employees to achieve business goals (2010). Engagement may include recognition, training, letting employees know that they are valued, make their jobs interesting and continuous coaching, just to name a few. The concept of effective leadership and how it applies to an organization is similar to the leadership I employ in my home. I provide leadership to my children with the objective to be successful in their future lives. I instill in my children similar skills effective leaders feed and instill in their staff to be successful, because what they observe in me, will create, establish and form their values. Resembling my unofficial title in my home, employees are also empowered to lead in their own ways in their organization. Because not all leaders are effective, they have managed to deliver a successful departments or organizations.
