To become a good leader in sports, you must first master your own leadership style. Excellent leaders bring out the best in the people around them. It takes a certain natural tendency combined with learned skills to be a good leader. Sports leadership differs from other leadership. A person 's leadership style will vary depending on the characteristics of the athletes and the constraints of the situation. I took an online quiz to see which leadership style I used the most. I already knew it would be democratic from my experience in military, but I was surprised to see that I also used authoritarian style as well. I can understand situations

Psychology expert, Kendra Cherry states, Authoritarian leaders, also known as autocratic leaders, provide clear instructions on what needs to be done, when, and how it should be done. There is also a clear division between the leader and the followers. Authoritarian leaders make decisions independently with little or no input from the rest of the group. The decision making tends to be less creative under authoritarian leadership. It is more difficult to move from an authoritarian style to a democratic style rather than democratic style to authoritarian style. People who abuse this style of leadership and get carried away are usually viewed as controlling, bossy, and dictatorial (2014). A person with a authoritarian leadership style can master this style by being well prepared for emergencies fast safe decision making. The really effective coaches, do not use embarrassment and humiliation as teaching tools. Great coaches understand individual differences in their athletes. The best coaches coach the person not just the athlete. The great coaches are great communicators. Great coaches continually challenge their athletes to do better and push their limits. The best coaches continually challenge themselves. Good coaches are honest and conduct themselves with integrity. The best coaches make the sport fun for their athletes. Great coaches use their athletes mistakes and failures as valuable teaching opportunities.
