Early in the film, Boone asked Lastik to stand up in front of the team and explain something about a fellow teammate. Afterwards, Boone asked Lastik if he was planning on attending college to which Lastik replied that he was white trash and wouldn’t be attending. Boone stated that this was a waste of his talents and whispered to Lastik that he wanted to see Lastik’s grades at the end of each week to ensure that he was eligible for college. This is what a true supportive leadership quality is. Boone showed a genuine care for Lastik and his future which in turn put Lastik on the road to success, and that is what a good leader does, especially in this instance.

Employees will not be able to help their company to embrace change if they are not made aware of the situation, or the chosen course of action. A manager must be able to tell their employees what is expected of them, sympathise with their situation, and publicly recognise individual and team performances.
