Leadership Strategy: William Pasmore

It is extremely challenging for business leaders to take the helm of organizations in an unpredictable environment that is characterized by increasing competition and constrained resources. In such a dynamic environment, the risk of failure and lack of a clear direction are inevitable thus an organization needs the right team with a robust leadership strategy. Pasmore (2009, p. 3) describes the best leadership strategy as that which defines the number of leaders an organization needs, the kind, where and the skills to possess as well as the collective and individual behavior organizational members should portray.
In the article “developing a leadership strategy: A critical ingredient for organizational success”, William Pasmore points out that developing a leadership strategy requires a process incorporating both art and logic since each individual should demonstrate leadership in the organization regardless of their role or title. The company has instituted such leadership strategy by having the right people to take charge of the various teams in the organization. It also emphasizes on team effort to develop its effective strategies with each individual providing their own input to create a balanced outlook and view. Moreover, Walmart also defines the leadership culture as well as the number of leaders required to spearhead organizational strategies in its value chains as part of the leadership model. When Walmart was expanding to the European market, the top management had to get all the staff to understand the expected leadership culture that was expected to help the organization implement business strategies and operate effectively since it was venturing in unfamiliar
