Mr. Clay: (Answer Question 5) From the point-of-view of my research and my own experience, I would say I do not agree with the rotten apple theory of human culture. Instead, it is my understanding that we all contribute to the culture within which we operate. It 's never a case of a few people who are doing something that ruins it for the rest of us, but rather a culture we have all built together will tend to lead in certain directions and not others.
If we wish to go in a new direction, then we 're going to run up against some barriers. Really, it is a matter of knowing what we feel is important to do and why we feel it 's important, how it provides a better service – if we are in a service providing sector – and then encouraging, proposing to those around us process improvements and seeing where that goes. That would be my answer. It 's not a few rotten apples but rather we 're all responding to the channels, the pathways of the culture within which we operate.
