During a field trip to the Niagara escarpment in grade 9, I came to see my passion for protecting the environment within our GTA. When researching further into this topic, I came across CYC, Conservation Youth Corps, a summer volunteering experience where students take part in multiple activities that will benefit our community’s ecosystem. I decided to volunteer with this organization the following summer. Over time, I eventually became one of the most experienced volunteers at CYC. This position of seniority further eased my ability to take initiatives and assist others when needed. For instance, when building the outdoor classroom in Bolton Camp, I guided individuals on proper equipment use while ensuring everyone understood the instructions and was on task. In addition, during this labour intensive volunteer opportunity, the weather became unfavourable quite often. When this occurred, I encouraged our team to complete tasks with a positive outlook. While doing so, others followed, allowing our group to be productive and collaborate effectively. Due to my leadership within the group, individuals focused on the impacts they have made instead of the exhausting week. Collectively, we made a difference in our community through increasing the amount of plant life, which is vital for the fight against global warming. Therefore, through my positive attitude and inclusion I have demonstrated that I am also a team
