Leadership Reflection
My perspective on leadership is the ability to lead others, effectively and ineffectively, through different techniques of communication. One of those techniques is the process of effective communication. Effective communication means to find a way to connect with each other through different ways. This can mean verbal or nonverbal communication, active listening, keeping an open mind, learning to compromise and so on. Verbal communication is the being able to represent yourself through the words you say. That includes the amount of confidence you pack into your words. Nonverbal communication is represent yourself through the body display. That means your hand gestures, eye contact, level of loudness in your voice and so.

These habits are, be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand, then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw. To be proactive means to be responsible for the actions you take and reflect upon them. An example of me displaying the act of being proactive is when I am make errors during piano lessons. I take responsibility and reflect upon it through practice. To begin with the end in mind it means to think about what people will think of you when you are gone and how you want to impact others. I have been thinking more towards the near future when I apply for university or pick the career I want. I haven't been thinking a lot about the kind of impact I want to make on the world when I leave. As an individual I think of encouraging and helping others through my skills. That's an impact I want to make on the world. Putting first thing first is learning to prioritize what is most and least important for the time being. I am guilty for being a procrastinator, so what I do is I write down reminders and set goals in order to complete my tasks bit by bit so that I don't run into a mountain pile of stress at the end. So far I have been able to do it sometimes but not always. This is something I still need to work on. To think win-win is to have a solution where both parties have gained something out of that solution. A win-win situation

The knowledge I’ve gained during my time in the Intermediate Leadership Experience course has made me realize that I am a Management by Exception-Passive leader. I think I’m a passive leader because after I let my subordinates know what the standard is and how I expect them to behave; I do little to help them improve or excel. I also know that I’ve failed to provide honest feedback in the early stages of negative behavior. This eventually led to my leadership realizing that standards were not being maintained, which prompted me to have to correct that behavior. Now that I am aware of my shortcomings as a supervisor and a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), I plan to use the concepts from this course to work towards becoming a transformational leader over the next 3-5 years.…
