Even if my ideas are not complete maybe it will spark thought among my team members. By displaying qualities of a flexer my subordinates will see me as more of a diverse individual that has the ability to adapt and overcome. Hopefully they will emulate these qualities. I currently employ a country club leadership influence and I’m realizing that this is not an effective tactic for both the subordinate and the Air Force. I would like to utilize the team leader influence but I must adjust my priority from personnel to a balance of mission and personnel. By making this change my subordinates will not like this adjustment at first but will quickly see that I am a fair and responsible supervisor. My peers will see that I’m not a relaxed, “buddy-buddy” leader and that I do command the respect of my subordinates. Before delving further into leadership and management theories and styles it is good to understand the difference between a manager and a leader. Bennis and Nanus (1985, p221) state that ‘managers are people who do things right and leaders are people that do the right thing.’ Yukl (2002, p7) goes on to suggest that leadership is the process of influencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how it can be done effectively, and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish the shared objectives. However, Stodgill (1974:7) powerfully stated that ‘there are as many definitions of leadership as there are persons who have tried to define it.’ Although there are varying definitions to leadership…

After completing both the DISC and JUNG Typology assessments, there are many outcomes that I found interesting. For starters, in the DISC assessment there were multiple categories that gave me various feedback. These included decisive, interactive, stabilizing, and cautious categories. My decisive score showed moderately low on the “D” spectrum and I thought that was very accurate. I tend to be hesitant on sharing my opinions in big group setting and I also would rather support someone else’s decisions rather than argue with them unless they are completely wrong.…

I find that, for me, the personality element within the Right to Lead Model is the most important concept within Module 5, Adaptable Leader. Personality seems to be the most important concept within said model, and the lesson in general, because personality shapes how everything we communicate is perceived by others. This means that every other one of your leadership qualities rely on you having a positive personality in order for you to be effective. Without a well-received personality, even if you are highly skilled in your field and act as a model leader, you will be perceived poorly and everything you do will be tainted. This would cause subordinates, coworkers, and supervisors to avoid dealing with you.…

According to the questionnaires I inspire followers to become leaders. The description says a score of five or more is considered as high, and a score of two would be below average. The score shocked me a little bit because I did not know there was such thing in me. As a good leader setting the tone for others to follow should be a very simple thing because I know what it requires. As a transformational leader my first step would be focusing my attention in my people, and work hard to help them achieve their goals and dreams.…

Leadership is a class I’ve always been interested in being a part of. Growing up, I was always taught to be a leader.
