Solvay: A Leadership Analysis

Leadership is an attribute that one is not born with, but rather is taught through the experiences of others or themselves. During every situation in a person’s life there will be one or more people that will help lead others to the desired goal. In the business world, there is a rank system at the top is the CEO who is the leader for other executives. These executives are leaders of the managers in their divisions. Last, managers are in charge of regular employees. This rank system allows for leaders to efficiently express the shared ideas and goals of the company to all of the employees. Leaders possess certain qualities that make them successful; leaders are aggressive, they set a goal and will not stop until they accomplish everything they set out too, they are able to clearly communicate their ideas, and last they listen to their employees’ advice for improving the business. From the lecture, I found encouraging innovation by asking employees to come up with ideas was the most important quality of an entrepreneurial leader. At Solvay this is a commitment they live by. Not only is this a good idea for the company, since they could possibly acquire the next big innovation, it inspires employees, like Martin Luther King, Jr. did. Without repercussions entrepreneurs like Jean-Pierre Clamadieu can create a pool of shared ideas that will help Solvay become a more successful and varied company. Similar to Jean-Pierre Clamadieu Elon Musk encourages his employees at SpaceX to innovate and share ideas as he says “Failure is an option here. If things are not failing, you are not innovating enough.” This entrepreneurial quality of encouraging innovation can be implemented into any type of business, which is why many of the famous entrepreneurs use
