This past week, I overheard someone ask this questions. What is a leader without any followers? It was in reference of someone who has not been so successful with their leadership skills saying that if they can’t live up to the leadership status, no one would follow them. It got me to thinking though, that it doesn’t really matter if someone has good leadership skills or not. However, one can aim to use good leadership skills for their own life to be a better version of themselves. This version of leadership of course could result in being a better leader professionally, however I do believe you have to take care of yourself first before being fully successful in other aspect of life. So are the leadership qualities that I believe can be used for ones personal use of life.
As the weeks go by and the more reading that we go through, it makes me more excited to actually apply what I am learning to my work and future positions that I might hold. In my last think piece, I explained all of my experiences that I had gained in leadership and management without really realizing what I was really learning. This class has opened my eyes to the deeper meaning of leadership and management. Going further though, I believe my leadership skills have been developing long before my professional path was even a thought. I say this because I am the oldest of three children. Being the oldest sibling has a lot of weight that comes along with it. My brother was born when I was two years old and from that moment, even if I didn’t know it at

When I got to college, I was seeking leadership experience. However, when I was younger, I was just living life and doing what I had to do. I was gaining leadership skills without even knowing it and I hope going forward I can think back to those times and know that I have been a leader for most of my life, even if it was forced upon me at

A leadership experience that had a positive influence in other students lives and my life was having the opportunity to be chosen as a link crew leader. As a link crew leader I participated in organizing the freshman orientation, getting assigned a group of freshman to do activities with, and throughout the year visit a freshman classroom and do activities with them. Those activities varied, disguised as exciting games, they were actually great metaphors for skills that they could apply to high school and through life. I wanted to make this the best orientation ever for them and I wanted to make them feel comfortable because I knew what it was like to be in their positions, I was just as anxious and out of place as they were.…

My past leadership responsibilities have taught me that admitting my mistakes and showing humanity betters myself as well as those around me. My peers trust and have more faith in me because I have demonstrated humanity to them instead of acting as if I am perfect. This allows fellow students to approach me for advice when they have problems because they know that I am willing to help them as well as be their voice if they do not feel comfortable presenting the conflict. I should be chosen for Camp because my commitment, work ethic, and dedication to my school, community, and athletics have awarded and prepared me for this opportunity. I am a different type of leader because I am not an outgoing person, which is usually a characteristic…

To many people, leadership always seems as a delicate and complicated concept. This is a contributing factor to why many people in today’s society consciously choose to fall back and follow rather than put themselves on the line and decide to take charge. Personally, I see being a leader as relatively simple; for me, leading is all about connecting and forging bonds with those that you wish hold you as trustworthy. Upon building these relationships, a leader must take action to identify and properly employ their subordinates’ skills. As a 1/C, I wish to only refine my ideas by using what I will have learned working with different types of people under me.…

Hisrich and Peter (2011) defined entrepreneurial skill as the capacity to make something new with worth by giving the fundamental time and effort, assuming the accompanying financial, psychic and social risk, and getting the resulting rewards of monetary and individual fulfilment and independence.
