A leadership philosophy is the ideas, beliefs, and the structure of leadership that an individual holds to be true. A certain mindset, or philosophy, will dictate how an individual approaches a concept like leadership. Therefore, it is important since a leadership philosophy can shape and transmute the methods that will be used in situations when leadership is needed. The beliefs and structure of leadership can be used to stay focused on what is important to a group. Leadership philosophy seems to be the underlying concept and process which adds structure to the various leadership approaches (Northouse, 2016).
My leadership philosophy holds that effective leaders are able to embrace an awareness that encompasses themselves, their group, and both the situations and conditions which occur at any given time. This awareness allows a leader to be secure in who they are, while understanding and generating empathy for group members, and also comprehending shifts in the internal and external environments that the entire group functions

Although I like the transparency, ethical behavior, and overall positive psychological capital that is generated by authentic leadership, it is still a relatively new avenue of exploration, falling short on extensive research at this time (Northouse, 2016). Authentic leadership seems to share a common source with transformational leadership, such as promoting positive change in an inspiring and conscientious way (Bensen, 2015). For this reason, I tend to envision a transformational leadership approach with a broad stroke of authentic leadership when thinking about my leadership philosophy.
