1. During my first year, PACE has challenged me to be the best I can be in many different ways. Professionalism is something that I’ve been able to further develop by learning how to dress appropriately in whatever type of situation may present itself. Although I’ve always been very timely, I’ve been challenged to not only be on time for everything, but to be early and prepared for any situation that might arise. Academically, PACE has challenged me to hold myself to a higher standard in my work and class time, and to strive for an A in each of my classes. I’ve always been a very independent person, but college has taught me that it’s okay to ask others for help. I am very personable, relatable, and driven. I hope to be able to inspire students through these traits. I enjoy giving advice to others and helping others with their problems. Being a PACE leader gives me the opportunity to do both in an academic setting and a mentor/mentee setting. I know when I first moved into the residence hall, I had a little trouble adjusting to the college lifestyle and I hope to be able to help incoming students with any issues of that nature that arise during their first year along with their FastTrack projects. In the past, I’ve hosted Elementary School Leadership Conferences for my school’s SAFE for Southwest club. I, along with a group of five other students, founded this drug prevention club my senior year, because it was something that my team and I were extremely passionate about. I was responsible for recruiting and retaining membership throughout the year and the club grew from five to twenty members in just one year. I was in charge of planning and running the events and activities for the kids at these events. The goals of these conferences were to inspire kids going into junior high to get involved with clubs and sports, because involved kids tend to stay out of trouble and away from drugs & alcohol. We talked on the variety of clubs and sports the junior high offered and told stories of what we were involved with while doing fun activities to engage students. Two things that I need to work on are my presentation skills and fear of letting others down. Though I don’t have trouble speaking casually in front of a small group, I get extremely nervous when giving a formal presentation in front of a crowd. I have challenged myself throughout the year to better my presenting skills through various class presentations and by joining Lindner Ambassadors, which gives presentations to high school students and markets the Lindner College of Business. By allowing me to speak often in front of students, I will gain great practice for presenting in front of larger groups, which will challenge me to become a better businesswoman. Through being a PACE leader, I will learn to better present myself which is an important aspect in the business world. I take great pride in helping others and when I can’t help, even if it’s something that’s totally out of my control, I am disappointed in myself. This is something that I’m trying to learn to cope with by analyzing the situation and realizing when it’s not my fault that I can’t help or do something for someone else. This position will challenge me in this aspect by forcing me to ask others for help with any questions or concerns that I have with my assigned Learning Community to help me perform to the best of my
