I used this plan to help perform a campus-wide fire drill procedure when my assistant principal in charge of these drills was at an in-service meeting at the district office. It allowed me to see the steps that need to be taken, the roles that many of the classified staff members take in these drills and the paperwork and information that is collected from doing these drills that can help improve the safety of the students. In my Ed5053 class, I found a way to improve the safety and to improve the characters of my athletes on campus. Leadership. Whenever this word comes to mind, I think of the qualities that it takes to be a leader: mentally strong, intelligent, and the ability to be a good overall person. Being a leader is a position that has many responsibilities that come along with it. While there are many challenges that a leader must face, overcoming these challenges and hardships can have some of the most rewarding results. Being a leader does not necessarily mean to lead a group of people.…

While current political and economic factors have placed emphasis on workforce development, I believe the purpose of education is as diverse as those who access the services of a comprehensive community college. I believe it is the responsibility of leaders to provide an educational environment where each person is understood for who they are and valued for what they bring to the educational experience. I believe that leadership is service to others. It requires listening, building relationships, integrity, ethical decision making, and community. Leadership also requires setting high expectations, sustained by accountability and conflict resolution.…

My leadership visions stem not only from the leadership models that were discussed in class or read in books, I plan to rely upon the leadership practices that were modeled for me in my years of being in the Catholic school system. For me, I see many parallels in being a school leader and being a leader in a classroom. Just as students need some autonomy, gentle guidance or even motivation, my classroom experience and strategies find application in my vision of a leader. Just as Dr. Murphy described a “great teacher stimulate, engage, mentor and provoke” (Murphy, 2016, Lecture Week 1, School & Learning, Slide #3). I know that I want to be a leader that challenges and motivates others, supports and values others, appreciates their time and talents.…

My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. This includes assisting students with discovering their talents and interests, therefore developing a love of learning, while developing into ethical, productive citizens. Accomplishing this requires a leader who is knowledgeable in pedagogy and curriculum, including the use of data and current assessments to enhance instruction, and who possesses outstanding communication skills, the ability to manage an operation’s resources effectively, promotes collaboration and teamwork, and is passionate and committed to helping students learn. I believe that my interpersonal skills will be my biggest strength as an educational leader. Through frequent, honest communication, and my enthusiasm for the subject, I will demonstrate understanding and compassion for those around me, therefore building trusting relationships.…

The Importance of Teachers as Leaders In today’s world, there is an ever-present need for restructuring our public school systems, particularly regarding leadership in our schools. “Teacher Leaders” is a term that is becoming more used in today’s educational setting. Teacher leaders, or leaders as teachers, are teachers “who aspire to stretch beyond their classrooms to engage in leadership roles that take many shapes and forms, both informal and formal” (Education Commission of the State, 2010, p.1). This is not a new concept but one that is being tweaked.…
