In my own opinion, my greatest talent in life is my ability to express myself both verbally and through my writing. My real passion in life lies in providing aid for the advancement of people who struggle to be heard in this world. I’ve been beyond fortunate in this life to be provided with a stable home, time and opportunity to pursue my interests, and a loving set of people in my life to encourage me in everything that I do, and it troubles me deeply that so many others have never gotten the chance to live their life with such support systems in place. but also to have them apply their skills in real life to an issue that they feel passionately about, be that speaking on self help topics, organizing fundraisers for charities, or something else of similar importance. In today’s world, advocacy is nothing new, but I think it’s important to learn how to not only voice your opinion on issues but also how to break out of that passive advocacy and become someone who not only believes in something, but also someone who does something about what they believe. One of my first experiences with finally becoming an “active advocate” was when I became involved in the Seeds of Hope Summer Camp, a two week long summer program and year long mentor program that works with at-risk youths who come from abusive homes, the foster system, and a variety of other difficult situations.
