Kevin Kruse: A Leadership Analysis

Kevin Kruse defines leadership as, “Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal”. (Forbes, 2013) I agree with this definition because of the part stating “maximizes the efforts of others”. So isn’t that the responsibility and what you would expect from a Company officer, someone who can guide his/her crew to strive and be the best at what we do on a daily basis, putting all of what we have learned and know into making ourselves better. In today’s world, leadership is very hard to find, and when we look at the one’s we do have as leaders are we really satisfied with the direction in which they have taken us. When people think of leadership, we usually think of great patriotic leaders… Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, however most of us try not to think of Pablo Escobar or Fidel Castro and the atrocities they were responsible for. Either way they were all good at what they did, which is lead, they all led numerous individuals, with a wide range of backgrounds to do what they wanted. In understanding leadership we need to look at what we believe represents leadership, who can represent this and why they have the power to lead. Leadership is needed on the fire …show more content…
We acknowledged the many skills that will allow one to be a great leader. When stepping into a company officer level, we must research, examine and identify ourselves among our leadership role and strive to become the leader we want to be. Promoting into a company officer is a career many firefighters today want to get to, but it should not end there and they should continue to climb the ladder until there is nowhere else to climb. In the process of being a great leader, lets help our crew members be the best they can be and hope that one day they will be in that position as well as you are looking across the table at them in a chiefs
