On February 7th, I conducted an interview with Maria Thomas. Maria Thomas is a second senior here at the University of Oklahoma. She is one of many great student leaders on campus. Maria is the president of MEIDP, is a consultant in the Oklahoma group, a member of the prestigious crimson club, and has been recognized as Big woman on campus by president David Boren. After seeing and hearing all about what Maria has done on campus I was inspired and wanted to learn more. I wanted to know about how she made it possible to achieve such great academic success while being a leader on campus, know how she managed her time between everything, and what motivated her to be the type of leader she is. She told me that ever since then she vowed to not be that type of leader and told me that whenever I take on leadership responsibilities to treat your team or group like you would want to be treated if someone else was the leader. Another great tip she passed during the interview was to keep a calm and clear head and not be overwhelmed by the responsibilities. The last thing I asked Maria was what jumped out to her once she got into the higher leadership positions she holds. She told me there are many others even better leaders on campus and how you need to interact with them, instead of being intimidated by them. Through her leadership positions she told me that she learned the value of making connections and putting yourself out there as an equal to those people. Overall from this student leader interview I learned many valuable lessons on how to be a great student leader on campus. I learned that in order to be a great leader or Resident advisor you need to be able juggle being both a great leader and doing well in your
