Leadership In The Movie Tucker

For the class we have broken down leadership into three categories. We call this the, “LFS,” model. The LFS model is an abbreviation for leader, follower, and situation model. We have also broken down the definition of leadership to be the process of influencing individuals or a group toward accomplishing a goal. So how does a leader accomplish this? A good leader is able to use different leadership styles and characteristics to influence his or her followers towards the goal. A good leader also has to be able to see or envision a future. As a leader it is their job to plan or put forth a plan of what they want to happen. A good leader also tries to put forth this plan to their followers to make them feel entitled and empowered. In the movie Tucker, the main character Preston Tucker is a innovative creator who is trying to put together a brand new car, one that is like none that has been seen before. In this sense I believe he is a transformational leader, because he is trying to transform the automobile world. The problem is that he lacks the capital, infrastructure, and resources he needs to put this together. What he does have however is the personnel and the characteristics to achieve his goal. In my opinion Tucker holds the three main characteristics of unselfishness, knowledge, and loyalty. These will help him put together his dream. Tucker is unselfish in the fact that he cares less about his personal income and goals and instead tries to envision his company’s ability to be great and the capacity that they have to revolutionize the auto world. To do this he has to have knowledge, not just of how and automobile works, but also practical and business knowledge. Tucker is smart and tactful. He knows how to work with people and get …show more content…
By empowering his team he has given all of them personal investment into the car and now no longer is it just a Preston Tucker car, it is the Tucker Company car. My favorite example from the movie of how Tucker empowers his crew is when his lead designer changes some of the items on the car, to make it safer and more practical. Tucker acts like he is upset at first, but after the designer explains why he did this Tucker instead praises him. By doing this he has instilled confidence and loyalty into this individual. Now the designer feels that he has room to work so to speak and can freely put forth ideas to Tucker without being chastised for it. This builds more personal appeal and investment for the overall project. Everyone on the team knows also that they are constantly being held to a high standard. Tucker numerous times states that this automobile will revolutionize the country and the world of automobiles. As a follower they feel that they must put forth their very best effort to achieve this task because this cannot be your standard run to the mill

Leadership is defined as being a leader of an organization or a group of individuals. To me a leader is someone who will give their all to accommodate someone in obligation of assistance. A leader doesn’t give up on hard task and pushes to be an example for their peers. I have demonstrated my leadership in and out of school by being a responsible, honest and hardworking individual, who expresses empathy to help those who didn’t think they could achieve a goal on their own. While in high school I have been in multiple extracurricular activities such as Drill Team, FBLA, FCCLA, Student Council, Class Treasurer, NHS and Yearbook.…

Upon reflecting on the word leadership, the most predominant description, which sticks out to me is the role a leader has to invite us to follow and to never give up. The keys to demonstrating and teaching others to follow is being an example to others can look up to—it is showing them how to be a leader. A leader is not one who is domineering, compulsive, demeaning towards others, or manipulative. A true leader is dependable, honorable, inclusive, patient, resilient, and multiple other relatable traits. A leader never gives up on the dream—the goal.…

Leadership Kathy Dunlap Bethel University MOD 310 April 24, 2017 Kameke Payne Leadership No one theory of leadership has ever been accepted by all, but the common thought of leadership is that it is an influence process, occurs within a group, involves goals, and attainment. Some people think leaders are born with a trait that innately makes them leaders, while others theorize that it is a characteristic of an individual, but we have learned that leaders are a product of their development and life experiences. Leaders are concerned with understanding people’s beliefs and gaining their commitment. They function without focusing on the opinions of others, which allows them to think of new ideas and motivate others to develop these…
