Leadership is influencing others to accomplish objectives in a cohesive and coherent fashion. it begins with the desire to improve an organization or an idea, whether it is making physical things, accomplishing a mission or rearing children. Leaders first develop good character traits and individual contributor characteristics discussed above. As an element of management, leadership unifies the other elements such as information, mission command and intelligence. Confident, competent, informed leadership leverages management’s effectiveness.

Influencing is getting people and partners, or even external forces such as politicians or the media to do what you want them to do. Influencing goes beyond passing along orders from your boss, it involves understanding the situations and challenges in front of you, developing innovative ways to solve them and implementing them in a way that motivates people to follow as if it were their own thoughts.

Part of leadership is providing direction and motivation. Providing direction includes communication the mission, prioritizing events, assigning responsibilities, providing

Effective team builders use the chain of command to coordinate through partnering entities. Formal leadership is granted to individuals by virtue of position based on their rank and experience. In the military, leaders are backed by the uniform code of military justice which ensure compliance with orders. Informal leadership mostly extends through cooperating entities of equal position. In civilian live informal leadership plays a key role in mission accomplishment. In the military, rarely do people hold positions of a higher rank. In civilian life, they almost always hold those positions before being formally assigned because they must prove they can lead without authority- they must lead through convincing peers and subordinates (and sometimes even seniors) that their rationale is correct and
