A main character, even a king, or leader has to make all of the decisions and at times, does not make the right decision. However, they can signify power and show great traits of leadership just like Ralph from Lord of the Flies, Oedipus from Oedipus the King, and Othello. Ralph wants to signify that he represents the boys and he wants to be the leader, however the darker boys such as Roger and Jack have other plans and want to start a new civilization with mass chaos. Ralph tries to stand up for himself and make the right choice, but it ends up with Ralph, SamnEric, and Piggy from that group. “[Jack] is going off by himself” and that ends the whole tranquil and peace (Golding 127). Jack straight up just wants to create a bunch of savage seven to thirteen year old boys who do not know any better. …show more content…
At the time, this seems to look like the best decision for Jack and he does not want t o have rules, so Jack does what he wants to do. However, in Oedipus the King, Oedipus can actually pronounce himself that he his king. Oedipus, finally starting to realize that he married his mom and killed his dad has felt somber over the past couple of days and to make things worse, Antigone and Ismene tell Oedipus that he can no longer claim king again. After this, “how can [Oedipus] look into his [children's] eyes” and not feel sorrow for what he has done to his family and what he has put them through, signifying that another change of power is soon to happen (Sophocles.243.1506). Oedipus can no longer take the world and his unbearable punishment is to stab his own eyes out. This could never compare to what Othello went through

desires to do without looking back once. Similarly, Oedipus follows the same mindset as Marcus regarding being rebellious to those not in favour of an individual’s actions and being determined to accomplish any task. In Oedipus the King, the characteristic of Oedipus being determined to find the murder of King Laius is rather his downfall as it leads to his own unfortunate shortcoming. During that time, Oracles were given much respect as they provided insight about specific events, making it unacceptable to refute their words. However, when Tiresias indicates that Oedipus is the murderer of his own father, he refuses to listen further consequently, exclaiming.…

One of the themes seen in this section is the changing of leaders. This is seen constantly throughout The Histories, whether the changes are accurate or not. In this section, Herodotus writes that Darius died before he had the “chance to punish either Egypt or the Athenians” and was succeeded by his son, Xerxes (414). Another theme that is seen in this section is repetition of history. Not only does Xerxes decide to continue with his father’s attack on Athens, but he also has an interaction with one of the men in his army that is very similar to one that his father had.…

First we’ll talk about his temperament, I will say that they both had pretty bad tempers in their own way. How they acted on their temperament would be totally different.…

Fate and Personal Responsibility in Oedipus the King In Sophocles 's Oedipus the King, Oedipus suffers a tragic fate after learning that he is the cause of the plague that is devastating his city. Although Oedipus does not directly bring the plague into to the city, it becomes increasingly clear throughout the play that the plague is a punishment from the gods for unknowingly killing his father and marrying his mother. The play begins in the middle of things, so understanding the preceding events is critical in understanding who is responsible for the tragedy. Before the play begins, King Laius of Thebes and his wife Jocasta abandon their son Oedipus and leave him for dead after an oracle tells them their son is fated to kill his…
