Leadership In Lord Of The Flies

Leadership at Its Greatest Throughout the novel the Lord of the Flies by William Goulding, the resourceful skill of leadership is mostly found pertaining to the characters. Whether the character used leadership as a positive reinforcement to return back home or with a manipulative personality to gain supporters for their own selfish reasons. Leadership is shown in different ways, and have different meanings and goals behind the ideology. In the novel Ralph would be the positive or effective leader from the very beginning to the very end. His excellent problem solving skills and his high level of maturity and understanding gives him a direct advantage of surviving. Ralph has the capability of prioritizing his problems and focusing on what is important. Ralph is also has an attractive appearance and has a way with words that lets the boys know that he can be trusted. Now, on the other hand, Jack is also a leader, but is an ineffective leader and would be considered taking the negative approach towards leadership. Jack is intractable and craves power in the very beginning and carries on that same ridiculous hankering for control. He used the boys’ wants to his advantage rather than what the boys needed. Sharon is always helping others when she has the chance and doesn’t stop until her job is complete for the night. She is consistently finding ways to make the residents happier and safer and by re-educating some of the staff. Sharon sets examples for others by doing her task right on through. Never will she take a shortcut because it is a timesaver. She will start her assignment from start to finish without complaining and constantly have a positive attitude even in the most stressful
