Importance Of Leadership

Importance of Leadership: Leadership is important. A team picks the leader of the group based on who they think would be the best fit. Leadership defines a relationship. Strong leadership skills can make or break the team and thus make or break the organization. An effective leader of a team focuses on the people skills and should try to get to know everyone. Without leadership, there would be no guidance and direction and everyone would start doing whatever they feel like. Leadership is needed to model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and to encourage the heart.

The attributes of a good leader are to be honest, forward looking, inspirational, competent, driven to excel, emotionally intelligent, and courageous. I feel like Amanda is honest at Goldfish Swim School. She is always up front with people, never gossips, and helps fix people’s mistakes. I also feel that Amanda is forward looking. Like my example earlier about her wanting to come up with a raffle for the members, she is always thinking about the future and what is next and what needs to be done. For inspirational, I believe Amanda is this because she is someone to look up to. She is always at work on time with a smile on her face. She has no problems accomplishing work and helping out and I believe that these are things people should look up to her for. Competent means being able to do something successfully because you have the ability, knowledge, or skill. Amanda has her bachelor’s degree in Education and she decided to use that degree to be an assistant manager at Goldfish Swim School. She went to the Goldfish Swim School headquarters in Birmingham, Michigan for a couple weeks for management training so that she would have all the tools to be a successful manager. Amanda is also driven to excel because she knows what she needs to accomplish and she even has a checklist in her office so she does not forget a task. I do not personally know Amanda’s emotional intelligence score, but I know that she never seems stressed or frustrated and she seems to have a strong relationship with every single worker. Based on this, I would say she has a high emotional intelligence score. For courageous, I would say Amanda is courageous when dealing with difficult customers. Some customers can get to the point of full on screaming at you and not budging at all. It take a lot of courage to keep your composure and be able to deal with these customers and after walk away like nothing

Leadership doesn’t necessarily have to be grandiose or significantly impactful. It can be displayed more casually or in a school environment like in my US History class. My table was often rowdy, which can be a problem when there was group work to complete. As a result, I constantly found myself assigning tasks to different people and managing their progress. One of the tasks of a leader is to make sure everyone does their part to achieve the end goal.…

I would hope that in my six years prior to being promoted to an assistant principal, I would have laid the foundation for positive relationships with the students, or at least some pocket of students. Additionally, I would think about the mindset of not necessarily the students, but the current faculty and staff and begin to measure the outlook that is currently in place. From here I would want to make changes that lead the community to a more positive mindset and outlook. Green (2013) states, “Effective leaders emphasized the development of interpersonal relationships while focusing on the personal needs of followers and the development of the kinds of relationships that would motivate followers to set and achieve high performance goals”.…

Leadership is providing direction to a group of people that may be seeking or lacking greater information. Through powerful leaders, the ability to transfer knowledge among similar generations takes patience and clarity. Without the existence of strong examples, confusion and misunderstanding would occur in young minds. As my peers and I are beginning to mature, we are transitioning from being influenced by a leader to becoming an important role model to others. Leadership is exemplified in my life through influencing the lives of younger generations, as well as through personal achieved acts.…

To get these traits in my group, I must be aware of my personal strong leadership practices as well as my weak ones in order to improve them. I’ve found that some of my strong leadership practices include, “fostering cooperative rather than competitive relationships among people I work with,” “praising people for a job well done,” “following through on promises and commitments I make in this organization,” and I “treat others with dignity and respect.” (Insights) Some of the practices I believe I need to improve on are, “keeping current on events and activities that might affect our organization,” “finding ways to get feedback on how my actions affect other people’s performance,” and “taking initiative in experimenting with the way we can do things in our organization.” (Insights) Self awareness is one of the best traits to have as a leader and realizing from these practices what I need to work on and what I do well will only make me that much stronger as a…
