My Experience In Leadership

I have had multiple leadership experiences in my life. I have participated in the Emerging Leaders of Prince George’s County program, I am currently Captain of Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs, and I led a Tai Chi presentation. Throughout my life, I have always worked hard and have been chosen to lead. I am energized by the trust placed in me. Even though positions of leadership often come with the responsibility of making difficult decisions, I am not scared of failure. My method is to work through every situation and stay positive.
At the beginning of my junior year of high school, I applied and was accepted to a program called the Emerging Leaders of Prince Georges County. This program is a collection of educated juniors and seniors in high school, who learn how to be leaders and Community Trustees. During the program, we were introduced to many influential people in the county such as County Executive Rushern Baker III, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Betty Hager

When I was younger, I craved the sense of responsibility and purpose a leader received. However, I had no idea how to assume a leadership role or how to lead people. Now I know that leaders are not self-chosen, they have to be appointed by the authority. It is the leader’s job to be ready for the opportunity and capitalize on it for the good of everyone. I know this because when I was chosen by my coach and teacher to lead, I was merely focusing on bettering myself. How I treat myself and carry myself is a reflection of what I will do for the team. I am thankful for all of my experiences leading me to this conclusion and I aim to continue honing my leadership skills for when I am chosen for my next leadership role.
