1. According to Holmberg and Tyrstrup (2010), leadership is defined as ways to set objectives, plan strategies, provide guidelines, and share values in the organization. Northouse (2016) defined leadership skills are the ability to use knowledge and competencies to achieve shared goals and objectives. For me, being a leader do not only have ability to set goals and objectives, but also use his/ her proficient, knowledge, and experiences in order to influence, encourage, and provide guideline so that an organization can reach the objectives with the highest level of satisfaction of all members. Thus, both description about leadership in Holmberg and Tyrstrup, and Northourse may combine to have a complete definition. Managerial work, according to Holmberg and Tyrstrup, concentrates on activity patterns and work content. …show more content…
As a manager, he/she tends to plan, organize, direct, coordinate, report, and budget. He/she also reflects, rate, give compliments to staff and employees. Managerial leader is a person who are an excellent leadership apply fully their capabilities and think about the meaning of initiating actions instead of dealing with unplanned events. Northouse stated that to be a managerial leader, besides problem-solving skills, a leader needs to have social judgment skills. For instance, he/she needs to understand others’ attitudes in solving problems, aware the goals and demands of employees to motivate them by incentive, have flexible behavior to meet new changes, and able to communicate with others about their perspectives. After reading Holmberg and Tyrstrup, I understand what is managerial leadership. However, for me, reading Northouse is easier to understand and I know exactly what are essential skills that a managerial leader is required to
