Boldness In Leadership Analysis

What asked to describe what constitute a leader many traits come to mind. Traits such as confidence, integrity, perseverance, and motivator are all good descriptors of what makes a good leader. The purpose of this essay is to provide a synthesis of three empirical articles and how they use common themes of how personality traits and different types of leadership values will help a person to be successful in their career. Argument can be made that leaders are born with all the characteristic described above whereas some would argue that leaders are formed through life experiences.

Boldness is a personality trait that is requisite for every leader. Success is directly tied to success of an individual in their ability to motivate and lead. Individuals that lack boldness as a trait were not as successful as those exhibiting signs of boldness when it came to leading people. The first article entitled entitled “Fearless dominance and the U.S. presidency: Implications of psychopathic personality traits for successful and unsuccessful political leadership,” written Lilienfeld et al explores the sociopathic trait of “fearless dominance” as determinant in predicting successful presidents.
Lilienfeld et al (2012) states that “boldness often associated with psychopathy may confer advantages across a host of occupations, vocations, and social roles, such as positions of power and prestige in politics, business, law enforcement, athletics, and the military.” The authors theorized that those Presidents exhibiting signs of boldness would be suggestive of a successful president in job performance and

Odom et al would argue that leaders are developed based off the results of the study. The study suggests that individuals are more apt to take on leadership roles if they are given the opportunity to grow. In the second article, written by Odom, S. F., Boyd, B. L., & Williams, J.
