What specific steps can I personally take in each of the six (6) categories of Leadership Capital that will positively impact my actual career goal(s)?

Capital can be defined as resources that accumulate, and are of value in certain situations Rosa Say states, “Management and Leadership are not interchangeable words for me. We need both of them, for in part management tends to be more internally focused (within a company, within an industry, within a person) whereas leadership is more externally focused on the future-forward actions you will take in the greater context of industry, community, or society.

This type of leadership as a teacher and athletic director occurs through an interactive process in which followers will follow leaders based on valued forms of intellectual capital (skills, knowledge, expertise). As a teacher I make sure my plans are prepared and knowledgeable about my subject area. This will benefit my students to learn skills to their fullest potential. As an athletic director I can improve my intellectual capital as a leader by thinking about solutions about busing, scheduling, officiating, etc. and sharing them with my coaching staff. In my role as athletic director one leadership skill I would like to develop is asking my staff and coaches what we can do better. To find ways to make sure our department runs smoothly and very little mistakes are made. Follow guideline #3 and 5 from the top ten strategies for developing leadership by learning to love ideas and experiments and taking initiative. Ask the coaching staff and athletes what we can do better as a program in order to be the best athletic department we can be.
