Leadership is a complex word that can be difficult to define as well as becoming a leader can be a challenging task. According to Barker (1997), “leadership is the reciprocal process of mobilizing, by persons with certain motives and values, various economic, political, and other resources in a context of competition and conflict, in order to realize goals independently or mutually held by both leaders and followers” (p. 343). Leaders must be open to changes, willingly to listen to others suggestions and ideas before making decisions as well as have a variety of skills and qualities. According to Jossey-Bass (2013), “leaders come in many forms, with many styles and diverse qualities” (p. 21). Individuals who are in leadership roles must identify what type of leader they are and adapt to their leadership style to be an effective leader to build a learning organization. As a leader my vision is to lead others into leadership roles by creating a learning organization. I am a leader who is dedicated, eager, passionate, and wants everyone to succeed. I take every opportunity, whether negative or positive and use it as a learning technique. I listen to others suggestions, ideas, and opinions and take them all into consideration before I make my final decisions. I am a transformational leader with a democratic leadership style.
