Once a leader is inconsistent in one area, it becomes much easier to be inconsistent in
other areas. Sometimes the inconsistency can manifest through leaders showing favoritism

toward certain followers and not towards others. Amongst followers, inconsistency can breed
discontent. Leaders should avoid inconsistency at all cost. When leaders are inconsistent many
problems occur. The inconsistency comes in many forms. Some forms of leadership
inconsistency occur when leaders treat certain employees different than others. It can also be
seen by how they react in different ways for the same situation. Another form of it is when
leaders interpret the organizations rules differently at different times so that it helps them. Each
of these inconsistencies can cause a significant amount of frustration amongst employees.

Shadow of Irresponsibility
Being a leader means the responsibility of service to others and the people who follow.
Leadership is responsibility not power. Although we often seen leaders who think leadership is
power and they end up becoming irresponsible leaders with misplaced priorities. Too many
leaders get caught up in thinking about power rather than their responsibility to those they lead.
In the words of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher: “Being powerful is like being
a lady. If you have to say you are, you aren’t.” A responsible leader thinks about the future. Has
a vision and sets goals based on that vision. Like I stated earlier the CEO’s of the companies who
were part of the causes of the 2008 financial meltdown were very irresponsible in their
