What even is a leader anymore? The word “leader” has lost it's value over time and “leaders” that students look up to in school nowadays are the popular kids that wear brand name clothes and are disrespectful to their peers and superiors. When most people think of a “leader” they think of someone who is very outgoing and not afraid to take charge in certain situations. I am definitely a people person, and I am always willing to go out of my way to meet the needs of others around me. Whether it's staying after softball practice to help the freshmen get their technique down, or simply helping one of my classmates on a homework problem I always strive to be someone that anyone could come to for anything. Often in group settings I try to take the initiative to help get things going, I often do this on my softball team when I lead stretches and workouts. One thing that I make an effort to do the most is praise people for their accomplishments. I find joy and I get energized by telling others how great they are doing. Leadership and service go hand in hand. Leaders must serve the people they are leading. If a leader does not give back to the people he or she serves they are likely not doing a very good job of showing others how to act responsibly or what values are necessary to making their environment better.…

The relationship between leadership and followership must be dynamic yet complementary to one another. According to the Hurwitzs, “Followership is not an imitation of leadership, a sort of mini-leadership, or a leadership-in-training. Followership is a different role requiring different, but complementary, skills to those of leadership” (Hurwitz, 2015, p. 49).
