Leadership Application Reflection

I am a leader in many areas of life whether that's the classroom, clubs, or at home but the place where I show the most leadership is the sports field. Of the two sports seasons so far this year I have been on Junior Varsity and Varsity for both of them and during Track in the spring there is only Junior Varsity and Varsity, no Freshman teams. During the final day of volleyball tryouts we had a "conditioning day" where we would rotate through stations with a different exercise routine at each and one station was a coaches meeting. These were my first tryout of high school and they were extremely stressful, not only because I wanted to prove myself to my coaches but also because the training was so difficult. We had two-a-days for 10 days including Saturdays and at the end of each practice we did a drill …show more content…
I also made sure to give conditioning all my effort even when I was tired or sick. Although I am fairly slow when sprinting, many other people save energy for the end of practice instead of giving it their all from the beginning. At the start of practice I would lead the pack during sprinting but by the end I would be second to last because nobody else would give their all from the beginning. During tryouts for basketball my coaches said the same things about my leadership and how important it would be because our coach is unable to make it to many of our games due to other commitments. I believe that my leadership would be a massive contribution to the Choate community, especially on the volleyball team. Losing eight seniors has to have a huge impact on the team and I think that I could help to fill one of those spots. My team this year lost five of the starting six and it had a huge impact on the each person's role as a member of the team. Leadership has been a quality that I have striven for my whole life and these last few months have helped reassure my that I am doing the right

One of the most important extracurricular activities I have been a leader in is the JROTC program. This program has provided me with so many opportunities, whether it be to learn about myself or to serve others. For example, my involvement with the color guard helped me develop confidence in my abilities, and therefore helped me learn valuable leadership skills I would later apply to being commander of the team, then personnel adjutant, and ultimately battalion commander. Through being mentored and encouraged by others, I discovered I had the potential to be a leader. As a result of my involvement in the program, I have become more self-confident, and among other things, I have learned the importance of turning failures into success.…

Reflection Growth Plan At the beginning of the course, I felt as though I knew the basics of what it would take to become an educational leader. Through assigned readings, class discussions and the ISLLC School Leadership Self Inventory I’m certain that the learning has just begun. In preparing my Artifacts Notebook, I chose resources that I feel I will be able to rely upon on my journey to and through leadership. I chose to include my quotes assignment, vision paper, ISLLC Standards, ISLLC School Leadership Profile, Good to Great and the Social Sectors, and a copy of a recent Marshall Memo.…

As a sophomore, I had to opportunity to get lots of playing time in varsity games and being a young player on the team, getting big playing time, I felt I had to take the leadership role in my sophomore class. Now that I am a senior on the team, I feel more of that weight on my shoulders. Being on the court most of the time, I feel it’s part of my duty, on and off the court, to be a leader for the girls. Keeping them serious in practice to just being someone they look up to when they need guidance, I feel those situations is what really taught me the leadership qualities. I’ve also inherited the leadership quality my senior year when I was chosen to be the student section leader.…

I now had the title of section leader in the band, and was also an upperclassmen of the football team. It wasn’t exactly as easy as it seemed from those of the past. The sophomores thought they knew everything just because they had been there one year before, and the freshman thought they were hot shit for making it through middle school. It was painful to witness the underclassmen of football only squat halfway down, or the underclassmen of band march out of time, and have your advice go in one ear and right out the other. I decided that I needed some type of legitimacy as a leader.…

Our leadership skills helped us in teaching them and helped them become great little cheerleaders. Without our help, they wouldn’t have been able to have our knowledge in cheerleading and wouldn’t know what it was like to be one. Another way I have demonstrated leadership was through track. For track we have different workouts we do every day. As a leader, I would make sure my group did their full workout and as a hurdler.…

Being a part of track and field allowed me to develop my personality of leadership.…

I have been apart of volleyball, track, and softball my whole high school career. In volleyball I have always been a leader out on the court or off the court as a mellow leader. Every year in volleyball the seniors are the ones that are forced to bond with the whole team, but this year we had a new coach who changed the rules from what we were used to. The other senior and I took it into our own hands to make this season fun, since no one was sure how it would turn out. So I invited the whole 9-12 volleyball team over to my house after a practice during the summer to have a big sleepover; it went very well and we were the closest team that I have ever been a part of or seen.…

Introduction As I reflect on this course and the results of the Questionnaires, Reflection, and Action Worksheets I have learned many aspects of leadership. I have analyzed the definition of leadership and now have a clearer understanding of it. According to, Introduction to Leadership; concepts and practice, by Peter Northouse (2015), leadership can be composed of many variables such as relationship, trait, ability, skill, behavior, and influence process. He also elaborates on how the “leadership of an individual can be used to influence a group to accomplish a common goal”. In addition, he discusses how leadership is not the same as management (Northouse, 2015, pp. 3-7).…
