To accomplish this, there needs to be an effective exchange of feedback on a regular basis, both positive and negative. My personality offers a high degree of agreeableness, which means that I care about the needs of others. However, this could have negative effects on my ability to give honest and constructive feedback. By being overly agreeable, even now, I tend to only give positive feedback. In order to hold followers accountable, I would need to be more effective with feedback and be able to also give negative feedback. Each of the gaps between where I am versus where I would like to be as a leader can be closed through the use of goal setting. As stated above I would like to become a more confident leader, one who is seen as having moral courage to speak up when something is wrong. This gap can be met by simply making an honest effort to hold others accountable. As an element leader I have the perfect opportunity every morning when inspecting the members of my element to practice holding others accountable. Specifically, as a goal, I will identify any problems with element members uniforms on the spot. However, to hold others accountable, one needs to have the background knowledge. Thus, I will need to reaffirm my understanding of Air Force dress and appearance standards by re-reading the regulations. Also, I will give everyone some sort of advice on something they can possibly do better even if nothing is wrong. Doing this will allow me to be more confident as I know I understand what is right, allowing me call someone out who is in violation of
