The relationship between leadership and followership must be dynamic yet complementary to one another. According to the Hurwitzs, “Followership is not an imitation of leadership, a sort of mini-leadership, or a leadership-in-training. Followership is a different role requiring different, but complementary, skills to those of leadership” (Hurwitz, 2015, p. 49). In Ira’s Youtube video she confirms that tango requires the follower-leader relationship to always be complementary and never hierarchical (Chaleff, 2011).
