“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” -Michael Jordan. That quote describes what I felt like after being in Chicago.Last February I was given the opportunity to attend the LEAD conference for Student Council. The LEAD conference is national Student Council leadership convention. The opportunity to go was an experience that I will never forget and an experience that changed my life.
Going into this event, I thought it would just be some seminars and would be a pretty fun time with my friends. I didn’t really expect much in the way of material and learning. Neither did most of my friends that went. I believe we all thought that it just would be a great weekend to explore and see new things. I was excited to be going into a large city and to be with people from across the country and from other countries. We went into this with excitement and the idea of having a great weekend.

We were all instructed to gather in groups with people you didn’t know. We all introduced ourselves and gave a description of our likes and dislikes. Then we starting swapping ideas to make our council better in any way possible. I thought I had some great ideas and points until everyone else started talking. I thought we had the best ideas, but our ideas are restricted. It helped me realize that we have ideas that work and we just keep using them and rarely use any new ideas. Being in the room was like having all of the ideas we use in a treasure chest and the room was the key. It helped me realize how much more there is in the way of creativity that we don’t think of because it's not inside our treasure

It was hot and it got exhausting. The sun was glaring down at us and we had to keep directing traffic in the hot sun and at that time I was really regretting going to the show. It felt like I was just standing there pointing in one direction, walking back and forth in the hot sun. I remembered we were doing this for the community which was important to the Blue Angels because they needed help with the traffic because there was a lot of people coming so I thought it was an important contribution. They finally brought us some water and food which was great because we were all thirsty and hungry from standing in the heat almost all…

After the drive we reached our hotel and unpacked our things and had to get ready because the concert was in the afternoon. The day of the concert was 7/16/15. These people are the most energetic, fun group I have seen. Lastly, I got to judge the scream contest. This is where the people signed up to go on stage and show everyone there best scary laugh. The crowd voted for this by chanting to each person and whoever got the loudest chant won. This also was fun to see everyone come together no matter who won, or did not win.…

Our field trip to Chicago offered me a new way of seeing the city. I have been to Chicago multiple times, yet this trip offered me an experience I was not expecting. It offered me an insight to the darkness that covers the city and the beacons of light that try to shine through that darkness. It opened my eyes to those who are searching for a truth, a love and an acceptance and are finding it in so many different places; whether it is Jesus People USA, South East Friendship Center, Olive Branch, a Krishna Temple or an Islamic Mosque. In each of these places individuals are just trying to figure out where they belong and if they can find acceptance, but what each offers is entirely different.…

The event I attended was Spirit Day at Poinciana campus on October 19th from twelve to two pm. That being said, I chose this event for the reason that I felt this occasion represents the identity and community shared by all the members of our institution. Not only that, but student involvement is important when representing your school and when improving your school environment. Thus, going to such event may have a significant impact on my college experience. This type of occurrence has the effect of making students feel more united, and unity only makes us stronger as individuals, which is why attending was important.…

Often, women walk down the beauty aisle of a department and grocery stores and see all types of merchandise for their hair, but not many know what the products are right for them. They see products that promise to rejuvenate dry, damaged hair; volumize limp, flat hair; straighten curly hair, and regenerate thinning hair. With my hair being a kinky curl, when I was younger, I would ask my mother if we could buy relaxers and apply them at home. She would give me the same answer every time, “This should only be performed by a professional if you do not want to ruin your hair.”…
