Title Chivalry is a very intricate concept. The original meaning of chivalry is more of a moral, religious, and social code amongst medieval knights. It involves taking a vow to defend the church, to defend their country, and to be honest, generous, and brave. Sir Thomas Malory does a solid job of weaving the general theme of chivalry throughout his book Le Morte d’Arthur. Although almost all of the characters in Malory’s book possess flaws that cause major problems at some points, the majority of them also have a dignified sense of chivalry that helps them to choose between right and wrong. There are many different instances where this chivalry is displayed. In Sir Thomas Malory’s book Le Morte d’Arthur, chivalry is demonstrated by the King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table in their conduct in love and romance, and in their bravery. There are many instances of romance throughout Le Morte d’Arthur. Sir Launcelot, especially, experiences a lot of problems and adventures due to his love interest. Arthur finds an opportune chance to kill his opponent, but he remembers the vision he received of Sir Gawain telling him not to fight Modred. Although there must have been some fear of death in him. However, King Arthur’s decision is not to give into the fear: “My lords, I care nothing for my life now! And while Sir Modred is at large I must kill him; there may not be another chance” (499). Arthur kill Modred and dies as a result, but the king’s main concern is that he has kept an evil man out of reign.
