Lax Restrictions On Gun Control

Improved Essays
Most of our American citizens stand by the constitutional right to bear arms, but I can honestly say I do not do to guns play a huge role in our society crime rate. Many of the guns floating around communities typically are not registered or stolen property. The lax restrictions on gun control is an issue because it allows guns to fall into the wrong citizen's hands such as our youth, convicted felons, and the reckless individuals. These three categories of our society are overflowing our court systems causing neighborhood communities crime rates to skyrocket with armed robberies, homicides and terrorism cases. One of the first reason I will support stricter gun control laws is that our young people can retrieve them too easily

People in our communities fail to realize that resisting law abiding citizens from carrying firearms give criminals the ability to cause more crime and rob more law-abiding citizens easier. I believe in a flatly opposed gun society that people can carry and protect themselves in the case of any intermediate danger to their self. In this rising crime nation of the United States we live, everyone should be able to utilize their 2nd amendment…

Though gun control is a necessary thing, many are against stricter gun control laws. Those opposed to stricter gun control laws would state that gun control would have no effect on reducing crime (Gottieb 1991). However, according to the Huffington Post, which states that with “Higher gun violence tend to have much less stringent gun laws” (States 2013). Having gun laws that put severe restrictions on guns are unhelpful and impractical. The government can make it almost impossible to obtain a…

Gun violence in America Gun violence is an all-time high. In the wake of Sandy Hook, widespread concern forced legislators to take a second glance at our gun laws. When twenty children and six educators were gunned down, many citizens were stunned, outraged, and begged authorities to pass more crucial gun laws because with fewer guns, there could possibly be fewer incidents involving gun violence. Many people believe that the widespread availability of guns is making society unsafe. Each year, nearly 100,000 Americans are shot, 32,000 of them die, 47 children are shot every day, and eight of them die, according to the U.S. News Digital Weekly.…

More than 10,000 people die every year from gun homicide, and most are from around 15-24 year olds. About 8,512 people have died last year from gun violence. I believe that individuals should not be allowed to have the right to bear arms because in most cases, it does not actually help people, children have easier access to dangerous guns, and having a gun makes the owner living there statistically more dangerous. First of all, many people argue guns are needed for protection purposes, but there are rarely any cases of citizens using guns. According to Carimah Townes, a Criminal Justice Reporter for ThinkProgress,“Between 2007 and 2011, 29,618,300 people experienced a violent crime, but only 235,700 — 0.8 percent — of victims used or threatened…

The third point that I want to bring up is the 62 mass shootings in the United States between 1982 and 2012, 49 of the shooters used legally obtained guns. Collectively, 143 guns were possessed by the killers with about 75% obtained legally. The process people learn about these acts are through the media portraying it in the way which the media wants you to know. Many times the questions asked of the innocent bystanders are one sided, directed in a certain direction and it doesn’t give the American people the whole story. The gun control laws are not the issue, it is the way we teach people on the ways they are supposed to be used.…

On one side you have those who are for gun control as gun violence has become a serious problem in America. On the other side of the coin you have American citizens who believe strongly in their right to bear arms as it is a staple of the rights all Americans are granted. In the US, there are roughly 283 million guns in civilian hands. Although this in and of itself does not seem particularly damaging or harmful to anyone, the amount of deaths because of these guns shows otherwise. It has been reported that over 30,000 people are killed each year as a result of gun violence, ⅓ of these deaths consist of people under the age of 20.…

William S. LaPierre from “Crime is the Basic Problem, Not Guns” claims that, “America has a crime problem, not a gun problem.” Anti-gun activists believe that by taking guns away the crime rate will drop. They believe it is too dangerous for the public especially for our children. If a new gun law were to be put in place, one that would state that guns are illegal, crime would most likely not change. People would be left defenseless against criminals.…

That is one of the most important questions in today's society. Just as there are the two political parties, there are two “parties” to gun control. The citizens in favor of gun ownership, and the freedom to obtain and use guns, are relying on the Constitution. However, the opposing side is relying on the statistics that come from the increasing number of shootings across the nation. Those in favor of gun ownership beleive that it is a fundamental right to own a gun, and it should not be taken away.…

In areas where there are less restrictive gun laws, you’ll see lower instances of crime and mob violence.” (Skeptical Eye). The first federal gun control law was added in 1934 by Franklin D. Roosevelt. The first federal gun control law was called the National Firearms Act. Eighty-one years later and the gun control issue have not been solved. One of the reasons that the gun control issue has not been solved is due to the ineffective background check in gun shows, online sales, and at some gun stores. The background check system is ineffective because the mentally unstable and criminals are still able to possess and use guns on a daily basis which will cause harm to innocent people.…

Gun control remains to be one of the most popular debates along with abortion, animal testing, and climate change. What makes gun control so controversial? Well, many people have different views on the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which reads as “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Advocates for gun control believe this applies only to police and military, but will gun control actually help reduce crime. I chose to believe that stricter gun laws will not be of help, since countries and states who already have done so have seen little to no difference in crime, criminals will not be affected and still get their hands on…

In recent years, a lot of debate had been going on about the laws pertaining to firearms. Unfortunately, with all of the mass shootings and killings being reported by the media, guns are given a bad reputation. Sadly, many people believe that they should be illegal because they are dangerous and can kill people, but what these people don’t realize is making them illegal will do a lot more harm than good. Guns have created a balance in society and if we were to take them away it could cause a lot of chaos which would result in more crime and more casualties. People deserve the right to bear arms because with proper training one could possibly save his/her life and also protect others.…
