Paralegals are lucky in their choice of profession as there is always a need for lawyers and lawyers always need paralegals. One of the biggest decisions that a new paralegal will face after deciding which area of law to focus on is which type of atmosphere would suit them best. In order to make an informed decision look closely at the specialties that are appealing to you upon graduation and then to decide what type of offices will be conducive to that type of law. No matter the area of specialization or environment a paralegal picks there will always be tasks that will be common to each site. Solo Practitioners are single lawyers that have a small office and commonly practice general law. This type off office would offer the paralegal a wider variety of daily work to complete and be a good place to gain a vast array of skills for the well-organized and ambitious paralegal. Scheduling client appointments, drafting documents, performing client intake, creating fee bills, and composing letters are typical client focused tasks that may be part of the normal day-to-day routine. Larger firms can employ several attorneys, each with an area of specialization and needing their own team of paralegals. This is a great environment for the paralegal that works best in a team atmosphere and excels in a specific aspect of the position. Whereas each type of office has the same tasks on a day-to-day basis, a paralegal is part of a bigger paralegal pool and may be asked to focus on only one case at a time or simply one type of task for many cases.
