An example of this is “We call them the Golden One. But it is a sin to give men names which distinguish them from other men” (41). What this quote is showing is that individualism is not accepted in their society. It is a sin to show preference, and choosing a name for another is a transgression of preference. Another example of how Equality is going against the government is when Equality goes into the house of scholars and states “Our name is Equality 7-2521,” we answered, “and we are a Street Sweeper of this City” (69). The importance of this quote is that Equality goes into the house of scholars and he is not supposed to because. The third example of how Equality goes against the government is “For men are forbidden to take notice of women, and women are forbidden to take notice of men” (38). The essence of this quote is that Equality breaks this law when he speaks to Liberty. This is an important part in the book because after he speaks to Liberty, he gains a whole new view on life that changes the past, the present, and the
