The neighborhood didn’t seem too bad on first impression. It was rather quiet even though it was evening. The area they lived in was mostly residential similar to Lawrence’s home at Cape Coast. He had a place to fall back to as a retreat from the main city. His roommate lived with Lawrence for a year and a half before the roommate moved out. During the year and a half, Lawrence’s friend tried to convince him to try out some of the different foods New York City had to offer. However, Lawrence still stuck to his Ghanaian roots and would only eat Ghanaian food. Lawrence said to him, “American food look weird and nasty. I’ll stick to the food I know.”
His friend replied. “Ekow, how can you come to de most famous city in de world but not take part in its riches.” His friend was saying this while eating a Big Mac from McDonald’s. “You wanted opportunity now you have it.” Lawrence shook his head and laughed. “Listen, I came here for the opportunity to work not the opportunity to stuff my face.” His friend took a bite out of the Big Mac. “Anyway, you need to find a job quickly. Might as well work while you are awaiting your green
