Law School Admission Essay

Attending law school has always been a goal of mine, but it was not until recently that I fully understood the commitment it requires. Even during college, I understood law school requires dedication and work, however, I did not fully understand the extent of the commitment and work it required until I began the process of applying. As a first generation college student, I realized there was so much more to college and wanting to attend any type of graduate school than my parents had believed. My parents always encourage me to work for my dreams and desires and always tell me I can accomplish anything I set my mind to even when I do not believe it. During my undergraduate years I learned that I am much stronger than I believed and not as independent as I had once thought. It took an adjustment period, but I was able to learn to be independent, and that it is perfectly acceptable to admit I need help. At the age of seventeen, I began to work in hopes of becoming financially independent. In reality it simply meant I was able to buy my own clothes, pay any school fees, afford all the college application fees and treat my family and I once in a while. At the age of twenty-three I realized becoming financially independent is nowhere near as easy as I thought at seventeen. The impact of student loans and other financial decisions I made had finally set in, making my decision to apply to law school much more difficult. Following much thought and consideration, I realized I needed to apply to law school. The jobs and the internship I have had all had one thing in common; they constantly reminded me of my dreams. Even though they entailed different work, I was able to help others, perhaps in seemingly small and unimportant tasks but I helped nonetheless. I have always enjoyed helping others and advocating for those who face barriers. Whether the barriers are language related, difficulty speaking up, fear or a need for assistance, I enjoy assisting others overcome those
