Personal Narrative: The Law Of The Learner

Improved Essays
The Law of the Learner is when the teacher has taken it upon themselves to become responsible for the students learning. In order for a teacher to be considered great, it can only be determined by if the students are learning (Wilkinson, 1992, p. 18). Some teachers have the gift of teaching. It comes naturally to them, while others struggle. The Lord sprung teaching on me. He birthed a prayer ministry through me, and gave me a following. I did not know anything about teaching, but through my love of learning and my passion, it has drawn people to the ministry. On the other hand, as I write this paper I have to ask myself, “Are my students truly learning information that can transform their lives, or are my words falling on stony ground?” …show more content…
Move around be free, “if the audience wants to see a statue, they would go to the museum” (Robinson, 2014, p. 154). The Lord has designed everyone one of us to be uniquely different. “Accomplished speakers, let their bodies speak for them” (Robinson, 2014, p. 154). Furthermore, students tend to pick teachers a part when they sense fakeness. When teachers are being what God has called them to be, and allow the Holy Spirit to take over during their lesson, their lesson goes from good to amazing. May all teachers embrace the servant and Spirit level of teaching, to serve and to love the students with all their heart, soul and mind, and allow the Spirit of the Lord to enter into their lesson to supernaturally manifest things that will change their lives forever (Wilkinson, 1992, p. …show more content…
Two vital concepts that caught my interest were the speaker to student relationship, and speaker to style relationship. We are living in an era were creativity is at all-time high, there is no excuse for boring. The internet has given the world access to whatever they want to know in an instance. Therefore, in order to be relatable to our students we must build a relationship with them, and come up with new creative and innovative ideas to keep our students engaged. Through this assignment I am challenged to become more responsible to make sure my students are learning, and that their lives are being transformed by what they are

Harmer (1991,56) that the wise teacher no longer invites students to enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads them to the threshold of their own mind. In this line, Harmer (1991) and Shulman and Hammerness (2002) clarified that teachers' responsibility is no longer providing students with knowledge, or controlling them in the classroom, but to facilitate learning, to employ inspiring pedagogy that instigates higher-order thinking, to be aware of students' prior knowledge, to organize it in a way engage students in activities, and to observe them and provide corrective feedback. In other words, a teachers' job is not just to stand at the front of the class and lecture. EFL teachers' performance is high on any policy agenda;…

After last week’s writing, I found myself in quite a fog of insecurity. Thankfully the most recent installment of YITE brought me back to the sunny side of teaching philosophy. Reading about the art of teaching was rather inspiring even. The quote from the text, “approaching instruction in a variety of ways to provide multiple paths for students to both learn the content and develop the skills of the curriculum is artistry (pg 147),” caught my attention. Often in my life I have gotten the impression that some people consider the position of a teacher as that of merely a figurehead, an adult to put in front of a group of kids to keep them occupied.…

I was born in 1984 and started school in 1989. Watching the movie The Bottom Line in Education 1980 to the Present, gave me a perspective of the Education system while I was growing up. I didn’t realize what my teachers and educators were subjected to. As a child I was very naive, which is what I was supposed to be. I never thought that my school was overcrowded or operating below any standards.…

Most people imagine a teacher as someone who is in their late 30’s or older teaching in a classroom. Many lessons are taught in the classroom, but many more lessons are taught outside of the classroom. My cousin Keisha and her daughter, KaLeiah, have been the greatest teachers I ever have had in my life. KaLeiah is a three-year old, a tall, lean, energetic little girl with beautiful light brown skin, just like her mother. She has dark black afro hair, and mix of shades of brown eyes, which has filled me with the will to open my heart and mind to the world.…

Because of the upcoming science STTAR, my observation of Ms. de la Fuente’s fifth grade class this week was a little different than usual. The teachers switched classes from lunch until one thirty to better prepare the students for the test. In this way, they would learn the information through different teaching styles. This week’s task was about advice on the teaching profession. Some good advice was to stay organized and keep the students engaged.…

My passion to be a teacher in the Catholic school system has started a long time ago when I decided the teaching profession was for me. I was just coming out of my Catholic high school and I had made a decision to take a Bachelor of Health Science Degree, in physical education and biology with the end goal to become a high school teacher. It was during this time when I noticed myself asking for help a lot and depending on God’s plan to determine my success. " Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.…

Hope for the Future: Creating Change in an Inherently Racist Society Racist acts against African Americans are featured in the news daily. This is nothing new. Racism has been a negative part of our society since slavery. Over time it has evolved, but it continues to impact the lives of African Americans. The feeling of hopelessness was and still is very prominent for many African Americans, as they feel trapped in the cycle of poverty and oppression, from both inherent racism in our society and in our legal system.…

The first time someone suggested that I should become a teacher I was both surprised and skeptical. But after giving the suggestion some thought, I came to realize that in many ways God had already been preparing me to teach long before anyone had even made such a suggestion. Throughout my years in school, God had provided me with numerous experiences and mentors that helped prepare me to embrace God’s calling for me to become a distinctly Christian agriculture educator with unique personal qualities and high expectations for the future. During my high school career, I was blessed with several mentors who encouraged and supported me in my goal of becoming and Ag teacher. Perhaps the most influential person was my high school Ag teacher.…

Biblical Foundations A curriculum that does not lead to the Savior is meaningless, never reaching its full potential. God’s Word is the standard in which all other curriculum is to be measured. As Christians, all emphasis is to bring glory and honor to Him, the Creator and Sustainer of all things. Within the Christian educational setting, Biblical truths are centered on the planning of all subject matter content as well as spiritual instruction as revealed by God.…

As Elmer Towns points out in Core Christianity, “in an age of tolerance, marked by an eagerness to find harmony among divergent worldviews, many argue it doesn’t matter what you think; only actions matter (Towns, pg.85).” With that simple knowledge we cannot talk a good talk but must walk in our faith showing that we were created in the image of God. Interaction is the opposite of seclusion; we must not seclude our faith and our Lord but lift Him up for all he is. Since mankind is created in the image of God, as an educator, I should represent God-like character, inform my students of the good Lord, and love each student unconditionally.…
