Law Enforcement Wear Body Cameras

There is a need for change. Nothing in this life is perfect. There needs to be change in several different areas to make it better. One of those imperfect things would be in Law Enforcement. While there are plenty of things that need to be reformed in this area the one I will discuss is having law enforcement wear body cameras. There has been a recent change in Florida, Las Vegas, and New Mexico, where police officers are now wearing body cameras. This is a great way to show the public a perspective they couldn’t see before. This will eliminate police corruption by a big amount. In Albuquerque, New Mexico, a city with well-known for corruption and police brutality, a police officer, Jeremy Dear was fired on December 2014. He was fired because he failed to turn on his body camera before using force on several occasions. This was very convenient for him because he could give an excuse as to why he did not turn the body camera on. Even after they gave him a warning and telling him to record all his interactions with citizens, he continued to not follow orders. With several more incidents after that, he was fired. These incidents included shooting and killing a teenage girl. These are some of the negative ways a corrupt police officer can get around the camera and continue violating someone’s rights. There should be a way to fix these problems, possibly making the body camera turn on automatically when reaching a location and not having any way of turning it off unless a supervisor authorizes it. Accommodations should be made when there might be incidents where they can’t record because they could invade people’s privacy. There is a lot to consider when fixing this matter. Everything has its flaws but we should work hard on improving things and correcting those
